Wouter Deknopper is responsible for bringing new services and products from Iridium to the market. He began his career in the satellite market with SAIT and then moved to Marlink before joining Iridium in 2005. He has extensive knowledge and experience in business development, consulting, project and partner management in IoT applications, land-mobile, aviation and maritime.

Kyle Hurst manages the operation and development of products and services used to protect the lives of seafarers and their vessels globally. He most recently secured International Maritime Organization recognition for Iridium to provide GMDSS services.

Thomas Flinth is in charge of building Lars Thrane’s worldwide distribution network. He has more than 20 years working in the marine satellite communication business and was a Master Mariner sailing in the merchant fleet.

The panel will briefly look at the development of law, “The Eastern City”, and consider the questions of absolute versus qualified warranties, using various references. Time permitting, the panel will also address questions such as - safe port at the time of the nomination with nothing to suggest that it may become unsafe and then becoming so while the vessel is in the port; unsafe at the time of nomination but safe when vessel arrives and is at the port; consequences of owner’s decision to accept the orders to sail to an unsafe port and the issues of forfeiting the right to damages, mitigation and indemnity. Panel will then move on to the practical considerations to avoid disputes by bringing in clarity.

The purpose of this email is to kindly request your cooperation to promote and encourage the submission of nominations for the 2021 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea.

You will find attached a promotional flyer in the three working languages of the Organization (English, French and Spanish). Each of them contains two links: one for the guidelines (Circular Letter No.4326) and the other for the nomination form in Word format. You may remember that the Award Guidelines were amended in 2018 and nominations may now also involve displays of extraordinary seamanship skills in very difficult conditions or any other acts of outstanding courage occurring at sea.
